The Portland Republican City Committee will be hosting a Summer Jazz Cruise on Thursday, August 5, 2010 aboard the M/V Islander with music provided by the five piece jazz band, Kinda Blue.  The boat will be leaving Long Wharf at 184 Commercial Street in Portland at 5:00 pm sharp rain or shine.  Tickets are available for $25 per person by calling Barbara Harvey at 837-2400 or Steven Scharf at 400-9176.  The boat will provide a cash bar for your liquid entertainment as you enjoy the styling of this up and coming jazz group.  There also will be heapings of sumptious hors d'oeuvres to go along with the surroundings.

            Joining the committee on the cruise will be several area legislative candidates including State Senate candidates Peter Doyle and Jeff Martin of Portland .  U.S. Congressional candidate Dean Scontras of Eliot has tentatively scheduled to join us.  After Dean greets our guests, the cruise will depart at approximately 5:00 pm.  Are you working until 5:00?  Call Barbara Harvey at 837-2400 and let her know you will be a little late.

Kinda Blue formed as a jazz quartet with high school students who have wowed audiences in Southern Maine since 2007.  The band is named in tribute to the Miles Davis album "Kind of Blue," the best-selling jazz album of all time.  Kinda Blue performs today as a quintet with Matt McCarthy, guitar; Ron Ho, saxophone; Molly Ridley, keyboards; Vincenzo Aceto, electric bass; and Nathaniel Gowen, drums. All the band members are graduates of Westbrook High School , class of 2010.
